# A practical guide to _daily wellbeing check-ins_

Build a short check-in you can repeat, know what to record, and use the history without turning it into another chore.

Moodwell Updated September 18, 2026 3 minute read

In brief

A daily wellbeing check-in is a short record of your mood, energy, stress, and what is influencing them. In Moodwell, open Mood Check-In in Mindfulness, work through the ratings and emotions, and add a note. Use a familiar moment in your day as the cue to return.

## What should a daily check-in include?

A daily check-in gives you a moment to name what is present before the day carries you forward. Over time, those small records can help you remember context that would otherwise blur together.

The value comes from an honest snapshot, not a perfect streak. A missed day does not erase the entries you already made.

## Keep the routine small

Choose a moment that already exists, such as after breakfast or before closing your laptop. Then use the same short sequence until it feels familiar.

1. 1

    ### Name the feeling

Choose a word that is close enough for now.

2. 2

    ### Rate the basics

Record stress and energy based on the present moment.

3. 3

    ### Add one influence

Note the event, thought, person, or routine that feels relevant.

4. 4

    ### Choose a next step

Decide whether you need action, reflection, rest, or no change.

## Make consistency easier

Put the check-in next to a reliable cue and lower the effort required to begin. If you are busy, a brief rating and one sentence are enough. Save longer reflection for the days when it would help.

- Use the same time or cue for the first two weeks
- Keep the app easy to reach
- Write what is true rather than what you think should be true
- Resume after a missed day without trying to recreate it

## What does a completed Moodwell check-in look like?

Moodwell separates the check-in into Mood, Energy & stress, Emotions, Influence, and Note. Influences include work, family, health, relationships, finances, sleep, and other. Choose the context that fits this entry rather than trying to describe your whole day.

For example: a lower mood rating, low energy, higher stress, the emotion 'worried,' work as the influence, and the note 'Presentation this afternoon; still need to finish the slides.' Tomorrow's entry may look different. The note makes today's ratings understandable when you return to your history.

## Turn records into a gentle review

At the end of the week, scan for repeated feelings and the situations around them. Pick one question to carry into the next week. For example: does a shorter evening plan leave me with more energy the next morning?

Keep conclusions proportionate to the record. Your entries describe your experience; they are not a medical assessment.
