The short answer

## What is the main difference between Bearable and Daylio?

Bearable organizes a broader symptom and factor record, with paid correlation reports. Daylio begins with moods and activities in a compact diary. Choose Bearable when custom health observations are central; choose Daylio when a repeatable check-in is the priority. Neither turns an observed association into evidence of a cause.

Before calling one app more insightful, ask what you entered. A detailed report and a quick daily check-in begin with different kinds of observations.

The order matters: decide what you want to record, how often you can record it and what question you want to revisit. Then compare the reports. Otherwise you can end up choosing an analysis screen without a sustainable way to supply its inputs.

## What does each app ask you to record?

Bearable documents [custom symptoms, other factors and health-related records](https://bearable.app/support/common-questions/bearable-free-vs-premium-features/). Daylio presents a [mood and activity diary](https://daylio.net/). There is overlap, but the center of the workflow differs. One makes room for a broader set of observations; the other makes a compact check-in the natural starting point.

Imagine wanting to remember a headache. A general activity label might tell you the day included a headache. A symptom-specific field can preserve a more defined rating. Neither is automatically superior: the right representation depends on what you need the record to say later.

A label also needs a stable meaning. If “low energy” means sleepiness one week and lack of motivation the next, a tidy graph cannot repair that shift. Clear personal definitions may improve the usefulness of a record more than adding another category.

## How do Bearable and Daylio compare?

Documented product differences, with current details at the linked sources.
| Question | Bearable | Daylio |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Starting point | Symptoms, mood and daily factors | Mood, activities and diary entries |
| Deeper reporting | [Premium correlation tools](https://bearable.app/support/common-questions/bearable-free-vs-premium-features/) | [Premium advanced statistics](https://daylio.net/faq/docs/daylio-faq/about/daylio-premium-features/) |
| Entry style to evaluate | Several relevant categories | A compact mood-and-activity entry |
| Data portability | [CSV export](https://bearable.app/support/common-questions/how-to-share-data-with-a-doctor-therapist-or-other-medical-team-member/) | [Readable exports and separate backup](https://daylio.net/faq/backup-file-manual-import-and-export/) |
| Storage question | [Read the account privacy policy](https://bearable.app/privacy-policy/) | [Device-based diary, optional private-cloud backup](https://daylio.net/faq/privacy-policy/) |

The entry-style row is an editorial distinction, not a timed benchmark. Customizing either app can change the effort substantially. Measure the actual task you would do, including an edit and a return visit to yesterday, rather than judging speed from a promotional screen.

## What can a correlation report tell you?

A relationship between two logged variables can help formulate a question. It can also reflect something unrecorded, a change in how you used the app or a period when several routines changed together. The chart is a description of the available observations.

Suppose lower mood appears on days tagged “worked late.” That is an association in your entries. The late finish could be part of the explanation, but workload, sleep or the reasons you logged those days may matter too. An app cannot settle those alternatives from a label alone.

Look for what the report makes visible: which dates were included, what happened on missing days and whether the comparison groups are meaningfully different. Avoid reading an empty entry as “no symptom.” It may simply mean no entry.

Our [cross-domain correlation explanation](https://www.moodwell.ai/the-whole-picture/concepts/cross-domain-correlation) develops this distinction. A bigger collection of variables creates more possible comparisons, not automatic certainty.

## When does more detail stop helping?

A record becomes harder to interpret when the logging burden changes which days make it into the diary. If you record carefully on easy days and skip difficult ones, the missingness itself has a pattern. A longer form can make that problem worse for some people.

The practical test is a normal week, not a perfect first entry. Decide which fields are essential and allow the rest to be optional. Then inspect the history. Can you understand the record without remembering what each shorthand meant?

For someone whose main goal is noticing how the week felt, Daylio may be sufficient. For someone preparing a detailed symptom account, Bearable may be the closer fit. Those conclusions follow from the task, not from declaring one product universally more capable.

## What needs checking before you switch?

Preserve the original history and confirm the available export. Test how your new app represents an old observation before assuming your vocabulary transfers. A mood scale with different labels can break the apparent continuity even if dates and notes remain intact.

Separate price, privacy and portability. They answer different questions: what you pay, where content is processed and what you can take with you. An inexpensive subscription is not evidence of easy migration. Local storage is not the same as having a recoverable backup.

If the actual need is keeping mood beside workouts and meals, explore that workflow separately. Moodwell covers those layers, but it is not a Bearable or Daylio importer and does not compute medication or supplement correlations. A clear boundary is more useful than a claim to replace everything.

## Questions, answered

**Is Bearable better than Daylio for chronic symptom records?**

Bearable is the closer fit when custom symptoms and factor comparisons are the main requirements. Whether it works better for you also depends on the effort of maintaining those fields and the usefulness of the resulting history.

**Is Daylio only an emoji mood tracker?**

No. Daylio includes activities, notes and reporting around its mood check-in. Its compact starting point is a design choice, not proof that it has no meaningful history or reflection features.

**Do either app’s charts prove what caused a change?**

No. Observational records can reveal timing and associations. Missing entries, changing labels and unrecorded events can affect the result. Treatment decisions need more than a chart relationship.

**Can I transfer the same rating scale between the apps?**

Do not assume so. Export formats and destination import support differ. Even when a file can be opened, the meaning of a mood label or activity may require manual interpretation. Keep the original scale description with your archive.
