How to connect Health Connect to Moodwell

Connect supported Android health data, choose permissions deliberately, and know what to check when a sync does not look right.

Moodwell3 minute read

In brief

On Android, connect Health Connect in Moodwell's device sync settings, grant the data permissions you want, and use Sync now. Moodwell reads selected health records into the app and syncs while the app is open or resumes. It does not write records back to Health Connect or continuously sync in the background.

Before you connect

Health Connect is Android's permission-controlled hub for supported health and fitness data. Moodwell only receives the data categories you approve and that the current integration supports.

Availability can depend on your Android version, device setup, and the other apps writing data to Health Connect. Open Android settings if you want to review the source of a record before connecting it to Moodwell.

Connect in four steps

  1. 1

    Open Device sync

Use the Moodwell Android app and open Device sync in settings. Choose Health Connect.

  2. 2

    Review the request

Read the categories Moodwell asks to access.

  3. 3

    Choose permissions

Approve the categories you want to share and leave the others off.

  4. 4

    Return and sync

Go back to Moodwell and select Sync now. Keep the app open while the sync runs, then check a record you recognize.

Which Health Connect records can Moodwell read?

The connection supports weight, steps, active calories, sleep, resting heart rate, heart rate variability, exercise sessions, body fat, and heart rate within recorded exercise sessions. Each category needs permission and data from a source app. Body fat and session heart rate have separate opt-ins.

Moodwell reads records into your account; it does not write back to Health Connect. A connected watch alone is not enough: its companion app must write the relevant record type to Health Connect before Moodwell can read it.

When does syncing run, and how far back does it go?

Sync runs when you open or return to the Android app, or choose Sync now. It does not run continuously in the background. If you have just recorded a workout in another app, wait for that app to write the record to Health Connect, then return to Moodwell and sync.

The initial read requests up to 30 days of history by default. When the separate older-history permission is available and granted, it requests up to 180 days. The result still depends on what the source app has stored and what Android allows. Later syncs revisit recent records so changing daily totals can update.

You control the Android permissions

You can change or remove Health Connect permissions in Android settings. Removing access stops future reads for that category. It may not automatically remove records that were already imported, so use Moodwell's available record controls or contact support if you need help with stored data.

If expected data is missing

If a workout appears but no heart-rate detail does, check both the session heart-rate permission and whether the source saved heart-rate readings during that session. If a record is visible in Health Connect but still absent after a successful sync, note its type and date when contacting support.

  • Confirm that Health Connect is available and set up on the device
  • Check that the source app has written the record to Health Connect
  • Review Moodwell's permission for that data category
  • Check the record's date and time range
  • Reconnect or retry sync after correcting permissions
