Check a packaged food against the label in your hand
Make sure a food capture leads to the right product, reference serving and portion in your diary.
In brief
Use a label photo or manual entry, then compare the food with the package’s brand, variant, serving description and nutrition information. After choosing a suitable food, confirm the portion you ate and its meal date.
A label photo produces a candidate to review
When you are holding a packaged food, Moodwell can interpret a label photo or let you enter its information manually. A photo result can be incomplete, describe a different variant or use a serving that differs from the amount you ate. The package gives you something concrete to check against the proposed food before accepting it.
Keep that review focused. You do not need to research the entire product range. Confirm the identity, compare the reference amount, and inspect the available nutrition details. Once those agree, the remaining decision is how much of that food belongs in this particular meal.
Match the exact version in your hand
Check the brand and flavor rather than just the first familiar word. A product name such as yogurt, soup or granola can cover many versions. Also read whether the result describes the food as sold or a prepared combination. A mix and the finished dish made from it are different records.
Package size and serving size answer different questions. A larger container does not automatically mean that the reference serving is larger. Read the unit attached to the food result and compare it with the package before deciding whether the entry needs half, one or several servings.
Worked example: the right brand, the wrong variant
You photograph a vanilla yogurt label and receive a result whose brand is correct but whose description says plain. The matching brand alone is not enough. Compare the package with the food detail. Return to the input and clarify the variant in a new request, or use the label for a manual entry instead.
Once you have the right food, read its serving. Suppose the record describes one small container but you are eating from a larger tub. Choose the amount you actually took. Do not log the whole tub simply because that is the package you photographed. Read the displayed portion again before adding it to your meal.
A short fallback when the capture does not help
- 1
Supply identifying details
Return to the capture input and use the product and brand name, adding the flavor when useful. A new AI request uses credits; manual entry is another option.
- 2
Use the label you have
If a suitable record is unavailable, enter supported information manually. Keep the reference amount consistent across the calorie and macro fields.
- 3
Confirm the saved destination
Select the meal and date, inspect the portion, and save once. Reopen the diary to make sure an earlier attempt did not already add the food.
Reuse the checked record when the product repeats
Favorites or recent foods can make the next entry easier after you have checked the match. Revisit it when the packaging, flavor or serving changes. A saved item is a convenience, not a promise that every future package contains the same information. The final portion check still belongs to the meal you are logging now.
