The short answer

How do you export MyFitnessPal data?

MyFitnessPal Premium and Premium+ users can request CSV exports from the Nutrition or Progress screens, or Reports on the website. Choose a date range and check the account email for the download. The export covers nutrition, progress and exercise. Free users have a separate printable-diary option on the website.

The goal is a usable archive. Downloading an attachment is only the first step.

Choose the dates, request the file, then check it against the diary. Do that before changing access or deleting anything. This walkthrough follows MyFitnessPal’s published export instructions; it does not claim a tested import into another product.

Who can use the file export?

MyFitnessPal’s export documentation limits the CSV feature to Premium and Premium+. Confirm the plan on the account holding your history. Having the app installed or having used a trial in the past does not establish current access.

Confirm the email address too. The data request and the delivered archive are separate steps. Use an inbox you control and can open. If you no longer have access to the address, resolve that account issue before relying on the export.

Decide whether you need the full history or a specific period. A short range is easier to inspect, but it will not preserve older records. Label each request clearly if you create several archives.

What are the export steps?

The platform routes below follow MyFitnessPal’s official guide. Labels can move with app updates; the destination is the file-export screen.

Choose the route for the platform you are using.
PlatformRoute
AndroidMore → Progress or Nutrition → export icon
iOSMore or profile icon → Nutrition → Export
WebsiteSign in → Reports → Export
  1. Select the intended date range and confirm the destination email.
  2. Submit the export request.
  3. Open the download email and save the archive.
  4. Extract the ZIP folder and open the CSV files in a spreadsheet.

Save the original archive before editing. A working spreadsheet is useful, but it is no longer an untouched export once you change dates, delete rows or adjust column formats. Keep both if you plan to analyze the record.

What is in the MyFitnessPal export?

MyFitnessPal describes three parts: meal-level nutrition, progress measurements and exercise history. The files arrive together. Export contents. Do not assume meal-level information is identical to a complete ingredient-by-ingredient reconstruction of every recipe.

Open a day you recognize. Compare the nutrition totals with the diary and inspect any notes you expected. Open a recorded measurement and a workout as well. The point is to confirm the shape of the archive before you design calculations around it.

Check units and dates before sorting. Spreadsheet software can interpret date formats differently. If a date becomes ambiguous, import the column deliberately instead of overwriting the original value. Keep the original file available to settle any formatting question.

Missing food records and zero totals are not interchangeable. If you did not log a meal, the archive cannot recreate it. Preserve that distinction in any summary you make.

What can you do without Premium?

MyFitnessPal documents a separate printable diary report. On its website, open Food, select View Printable Report and choose the date range. This is a readable report, not the same structured export.

Use the format that matches the job. A readable report may be sufficient for an appointment or personal reference. Spreadsheet analysis needs structured fields. Do not buy an upgrade before deciding which of those you actually need.

If your issue concerns access to account data rather than the convenience export feature, contact MyFitnessPal support through its official help center. The self-service subscription feature and an account-data request are different processes.

What if the email or file is missing?

  • Check the account email and its spam or filtered folders.
  • Confirm that the request used the intended account and dates.
  • If the download opens poorly on the phone, save and inspect it on a computer.
  • Contact MyFitnessPal support with the request details if the archive remains unavailable.

Do not send the full archive to a public forum to troubleshoot a formatting issue. A screenshot of column names or a made-up sample can describe the problem without exposing the diary. Check that example rows are actually fictional before sharing them.

Moodwell does not currently import MyFitnessPal exports. Keep the archive separately if you begin a Moodwell food diary. An export is useful even without a migration: it gives you a record you can inspect on your own terms.

For the next choice, read MyFitnessPal alternatives. Choose the missing workflow first. Then decide whether switching earns its effort.

A little more context

Questions, answered

Is MyFitnessPal CSV export free?

The documented self-service CSV feature requires Premium or Premium+. The website has a separate printable-diary route. Choose based on whether you need a readable report or structured files.

Does the export include every individual food?

MyFitnessPal describes the nutrition export at meal level. Inspect your received files before assuming they contain every food, recipe ingredient or detail visible in the diary. The file contents determine what you can analyze.

Can I export directly from the website?

Yes. The documented route is Reports, then Export, after signing in. Confirm the account and dates before submitting the request, then retrieve the emailed archive.

Will a CSV upload recreate my diary in Moodwell?

No. Moodwell has no current MyFitnessPal importer. Keep the exported history as an archive and start a new diary separately if you choose to move.
